Ralph D. “Mike” McKiel,

February 14, 2018

Ralph D. "Mike" McKiel, Jr., 68, formerly of Somerville, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Wendy (Kneeland) McKiel, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.

Mike was born in Somerville and was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Publicover) McKiel.

Mike served his country in the Army National Guard and worked for the US Postal Service, in Boston, for over 27 years. He cared deeply for his family and worked hard to provide in every way for them. He was a "jack of all trades" who could always be relied on to fix and maintain things around the home. Mike had an adventurous spirit all of his life and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially playing video games with his grandchildren and family trips to amusement parks.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Erik McKiel and his wife Sarah of Blackstone, Heather McKiel of Attleboro and Debra Mendes of E. Taunton; brother, Dean McKiel of N. Attleboro; grandchildren, Gabriel, Noah, Kaitlyn, and Brianna and several nieces and nephews.

His graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11am, in the Mayflower Cemetery, Broadway, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 4-7pm, in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton.

Donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
