Obituary

Ralph G. Hodgson Sr., 79, of Taunton, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home. He was the husband of fifty-seven years to Margaret (Traverse) Hodgson.

Ralph was born in Taunton, the son of the late George and Lillian (Wilkinson) Hodgson. He was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1959. Mr. Hodgson served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force. Ralph worked for the City of Taunton for thirty years as a firefighter. He also worked for the former Olson's flower shop as a delivery man for several years, retiring in 2001. Mr. Hodgson was very active as a coach in Taunton youth sports and CYO Basketball. He was known to many as the "Candy Man" due to having candy with him at all times. Ralph cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially attending his grandkids sporting events.

Survivors besides his wife are a daughter: Kristine M. Coute and her husband Thomas of Taunton; four sons: Ralph G. Hodgson Jr., and his wife Dawn of Brockton; James M. Hodgson and his wife Gina of Lakeville; Douglas J. Hodgson of Taunton; and Daniel S. Hodgson and his wife Valerie of Berkley; former father-in-law of Barbara Beuttel; twelve grandchildren: Sam, Chelsea, Taylor, Christopher, Kyle, Abigail, Jenna, Allison, Amanda, Ellie, Mackenzie and Mitch; two sisters: Marilyn Traverse of Dennis; and Ruth Beauvais of Tauton; a brother: William Hodgson of Vermont; along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marjorie Baertschi, Virginia Farrar, Carol Clark and George Hodgson.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 9am from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, burial to follow with Military Honors in Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
