Peter “Pete” B. Spencer

Peter "Pete" B. Spencer, 76, passed away on July 31, 2018, at Hope Hospice, in Providence, RI, after a battle with cancer.

Pete was born in Taunton, son of the late Herbert R. and Helen M. (Grassie) Spencer. He was loving husband to the late Barbara (Walsh) Spencer.

He grew up in Raynham and was a graduate of Taunton High School. In his working life he worked as a surveyor for Tibbets Engineering, and in 1972 began working for Bell Atlantic, retiring as a power test man in 1996. During retirement he worked part time as an electrician for Olson's Greenhouses, in Raynham. He was a lifelong ham radio operator. Pete was a devoted member of the West Congregational Church, where he had been a deacon, assisted on the building and grounds team doing electrical work, he provided "goodies" as part of the fellowship team, and ran the video equipment.

He was a man who could fix anything. Pete is described by those who knew him, as being a kind and gentle soul.

He is survived by his two children, Dorothy Bentley and her husband Scott of Coventry, RI and Ken Spencer and his wife Nicole of Rochester, MA; four grandchildren, Becky Broadbent, Cameron, Carson, and Addyson Spencer; a brother Jeff Spencer and his wife Nancy of Port Royal, SC; his aunt Betty Thompson of Raynham; his first wife Donna Rubadou of Clarkdale, AZ; a former son-in-law Jeff Broadbent; two former sisters-in-law Sandy Bourget and her husband Norman and their daughter Norma of Bradford, VT and Gail Hoganson and her four children of Scottsdale AZ; three step children Yvonne Mehu and her three children, Jay Raynard, and Chris Raynard and his son; and his grand dog Benji.

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 3, 2018, from 4-7pm, in the Crapo Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Rt 138, Taunton.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service to be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 10 am, in the West Congregational Church, 415 Winthrop Street, Taunton, MA. Burial to follow in the Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at West Congregational Church.
