Olive (Moniz) Santos

July 15, 2019

Olive (Moniz) Santos, 88, of Acushnet, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019, at Alden Court Nursing and Rehab Center, in Fairhaven. She was the wife of 70 years to Jack Santos.

Born and raised in Fairhaven, daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Costa) Moniz, she settled in Acushnet 45 years ago.

Olive loved to interact with people; she came from a large family of 10 children and was close to many of them for most of her life; She felt most at home in the company of her family. She loved her family and they loved her right back. She always liked to keep busy; in the summer she loved to be outside in her gardens, tending to her yard and her many bird feeders...chasing away the squirrels was Jack's hobby. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother having spent time babysitting and helping to raise each generation that followed her. She worked a seasonal position at P&D Fruit and Produce making floral arrangements for over 45 years; those she worked with were family to her. Anyone who knew her loved her welcoming demeanor and warm smile. Over the years she enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City and New Hampshire to vacation with family. She passed on her love of card games and puzzles to her grandkids and their children. Finding a puzzle big and complex enough for Nana became an unspoken family tradition of sorts. She will always remember her for the comforting hugs and kisses she doted upon her kids from the rocking chair by the window as she read to them or sang nursery rhymes...always with a chirp of contentment and happiness in her voice. She will be remembered fondly and missed always.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years; a son, Jack R. Santos and his wife Donna of Fairhaven; a daughter, Debra A. Fernandes of Fairhaven; three grandchildren, Becky Gagne of Fairhaven, Sarah Santos of Acushnet and her former husband Josh and Matthew R. Santos and his wife Ashlee of Fairhaven; five great grandchildren, Trevor, Joshua, Avery, Emmy and Brody; and many nieces and nephews.
