Norman P. Belmarce

Norman P. Belmarce, 94, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. He was the husband of the late Theodora (Coelho) Belmarce, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Norman was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and was a son of the late John and Clementina (Morse) Belmarce. He was a descendant of Whaling Masters through his grandfather, Captain Henry Morse of New Bedford. He spent his boyhood in Nantucket, roaming the islands in the summer and playing pirates with his friends and siblings.

Norman served his country honorably in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He worked as a supervisor for the Brick Layer's Union for many years until his retirement. He helped to build many local area schools and set the corner stones at St. John's and Bishop Feehan. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion and VFW, and could often be seen collecting donations by selling poppies well into his 90's. Norman enjoyed being on the water and spending time working on his home and property. He also enjoyed cruises and trips to California to visit family. Norman also served as Grand Marshal of the Attleboro Memorial Day Parade.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Belmarce of Attleboro and Cynthia Belmarce and her late husband Paul Manoogian; sisters, Jean Perry and her husband John of Fairhaven, Phyllis Benoit of NH, Elaine Sharp and her husband Willis of CA and Pauline Valles and her husband Walter of Westminster; brother, Paul Oliveira and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late William, Lionel and Edward Belmarce and Isabel Barros.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 11am, in the Foley-Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., Attleboro.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 9-11am in the funeral home.
