Marguerite(Peg)Cornaglia, wife of the late Claude Cornaglia, both of Taunton, died peacefully March 18, 2018, at the Daggett-Crandal-Newcomb Home, in Norton, where she resided for the past 5 years. She was 95.
Born in Taunton, to Margaret and Leo Carr, she graduated from Taunton High School and attended Morton Hospital Nursing School where she earned her credentials to be a Registered Nurse. She trained at Boston City Hospital, as well as, Morton Hospital where she worked as a surgical nurse. She also worked as a private nurse for various Taunton families.
Mrs. Cornaglia was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church where she could be seen walking to morning Mass daily. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to his architectural job sites to places like Niagra Falls and Messina, NY. In later years she wintered in Long Boat Key, Florida, where she enjoyed spending time with her dear friends and in-laws, the Backlunds. But mostly Peg will be remembered as a wife and mother who was fiercely devoted to her family. She was a great cook and would often team up with Claude to host gourmet dinners for friends, family, and business associates. After having 7 children of her own, she selflessly gave her time to care for her grandchildren and would comment that it kept her young.
Mrs.Cornaglia is survived by 5 daughters, Nancy Callahan of Dighton, Jan Backlund of Little Compton, RI, Joanne Bettencourt of Dighton, Susan Tibbles of Rehoboth and Jean Longe of Rehoboth, and a son, Michael Cornaglia of Taunton, as well as, their loving spouses Don Backlund, Richard Bettencourt, Steve Tibbles, Michele Cornaglia, and Bob Longe. She was also the mother of the late Paul Cornaglia. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, Abby and Daisy Gray Backlund, Casey and Ryan Bettencourt, Molly Bettencourt Smith, Emily and Joshua Tibbles, Kali, Zack and Matthew Cornaglia and Jacob and Bailey Longe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at The Annunciation of the Lord Church, on First Street, in Taunton, on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 11 am.
Visiting hours will take place prior to the Mass, from 9-10:30 am, in the Crapo- Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Avenue, in Taunton. Burial will be private.
