Manuel M. "Diamond" Allemao, 85, of East Freetown, passed away peacefully Monday, May 13, 2019, at The Oaks in New Bedford. He was the loving husband of Rita T. (L'Heureux) Allemao, for whom he'd been married for the past 58 years.
Born and raised in Acushnet, son of the late Manuel and Zulmira (Duarte) Allemao, he settled in East Freetown in 1986 where he was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church. Manny served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later drove truck for Yellowbird Motor Lines for many years until his retirement.
He made Cursillo at LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. John Neumann Church where he and his wife were members of the Couples Club, sang in the Choir, completed Marriage Encounter together and were active with the Lakeside Festival.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dwayne Allemao and his wife Kathleen of East Freetown; grandchildren, Mason, Morgan, Sabrina and their mother Kathy Allemao of Milford; two sisters, Juliana Silva of Acushnet and Priscilla Walker of Burleson, TX. Mr. Allemao was the father of the late Kenneth Allemao and brother of the late Louis, Laura, Amelia, Antonio, John, Daniel, Jose, Ernesto, and Julia Allemao.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 24, 2019, at 10:00AM, at St. John Neumann Church, in East Freetown. Interment will follow at the Acushnet Cemetery, 91 Main Street, Acushnet, MA and then repast celebrated from 11:30 to 3:30PM at Pub6T5 of New Bedford, 736 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
In lieu of flowers, the ,would prefer donations made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements are by the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.
