Leonard R. Holst, beloved pastor, father, and friend, died at home on July 11, 2018, at the age of 100, after a short battle with pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by his three daughters, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and extended family, as well as his many friends and members of his church family.
Leonard's main focus was always his church ministry which he began early in life, shortly after his marriage to Eileen. Since his ordination on July 27, 1946, as a Seventh-Day Adventist pastor, he preached God's word, with his wife by his side, for the next 72 years, in countless SDA churches as well as others outside of his denomination including Dighton Community Church and Union Congregational Church.
Having become a licensed psychologist later in his ministry, he realized the need to help people see the connection between understanding one's self and one's relationship to God. In further efforts to reveal scriptural truths, he wrote two books explaining and clarifying important messages found in the Bible. In recent years, he fervently encouraged everyone to accept God's grace and his message became "Come to God as you are, salvation is a gift that is given to all who ask".
Leonard was an attentive husband and dad who, in spite of working two jobs and attending college, always found time for family activities with his wife and young daughters such as camping, boating, sharing the wonders of nature and singing together as a family.
Leonard was a cheerful, generous and caring friend. He loved to make others laugh and always had a joke to tell, but he was equally ready to offer spiritual guidance or pray with a friend in need. His intelligence and wit, as well as his willingness to help others will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 2 pm, at the Union Congregational Church, in Taunton, MA. All are invited to come and celebrate Leonard's amazing life and share memories and hugs.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, Taunton, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leonard's name to the Community VNA at www.communityvna.com.
