Lauretta M. Messier

Lauretta M. (Boulay) Messier, 95, a long time resident of Swansea, passed away at the Fall River Healthcare Center after a long illness. She was the widow of Normand Messier.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Oscar Boulay and the late Laura (Bacon) Boulay, she moved to Swansea in 1956 and lived there for over 50 years. She worked with her husband and after his passing in the ownership of the former Normand's Candy & Cookie Co. in Fall River, retiring in 1994.

Mrs. Messier was a communicant St. Louis de France Church, Swansea, where she maintained an active participation through much of her life. She was a member and past president of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality of the church, a eucharistic minister and member of the choir there. She was a member and past secretary of the District Council of Catholic Women. She was a recipient of the Fall River Diocese Marian Medal; and a recipient of the Margaret Lahey Award from the DCCW.

She was also a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the Fall River Carousel Lions.

She is survived by two sons, two sons Normand E Messier companion Louise Methot of Fall River, Robert D Messier companion Paula Carvalho of Somerset, daughter Colette Carpentier husband Russell of Sandwich , Mass. Her eight grandchildren Lisa Carpentier companion Glenn, Michael Carpentier wife Jody, Danielle Holden husband Jonathan, Catherine Vallas companion Dave Tolley, Bethany Messier, Melissa Barboza husband Brian, Christopher Messier wife Stacia, Jeffrey Messier. And 13 great grand children. A brother, Fernand Boulay of Somerset; a sister Georgette LeComte of Tiverton; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, at 9 AM, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a 10 AM, funeral mass in St. Louis de France Church, Buffington St., Swansea. Burial will follow at the Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
