Karen M. Costa

May 5, 1957 ~ March 16, 2018 (age 60)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen M. Costa (Chasse), of Somerset, MA. Karen passed peacefully on March 16th, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family, after a long yet courageous battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of Robert and the late Janet Chasse (Larrivee), the wife of the late Jeffrey Costa, and the mother of the late Meghan Costa. In addition to her father, she leaves her adoring children Jordan, Kaitlin (Fitzpatrick), and Jesse Costa, and stepson James Costa. She also leaves behind her devoted and loving companion Michael Profio. She will be sorely missed by her beloved sisters Cynthia Chasse, Julie Dusio (Chasse), Gail Chasse, and Bonnie Kreiner. Karen will be forever remembered by her nieces and nephews whom she cherished deeply, in addition to her extended family and dear friends.

Karen was born on May 5th, 1957, in Fall River, MA. She grew up in Somerset, MA, and was a graduate of the 1976 class of Somerset High School. She married her soul mate Jeffrey Costa, on August 1st, 1982, and they had 8 wonderful years together before Jeffrey passed away after his own resilient fight with cancer.

Karen spent a decade in banking and then decided to pursue a career that was her passion, taking care of others. She went back to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She dedicated her life to caring for others - and that is what she was happiest doing. She spent years working at the Somerset Ridge Center caring for the elderly, and was a home health aide and personal care assistant to many whom she adored.

Karen loved spending her spare time with her beloved family and friends. She was a radiant human being who lit up each and every room she entered into. She loved to travel, especially to Florida to be with her dear family. She was most definitely a fashionista, and had the most extensive hat collection you could imagine, practically a hat for every occasion. She spent many beautiful days boating with loved ones, and cherished being on the ocean. She loved gardening, and was notorious for bringing light and beauty to dark places. She also loved spending time in Newport, RI, which was one of her favorite places on earth.

We find comfort in knowing that Karen is on a beach somewhere watching the sunset with her darling daughter, husband, and mother, listening to ‘Ripple' by the Grateful Dead, eating a big ole platter of oysters, and sipping on a glass of Moet. So with that, let us not grieve, but all imagine that beautiful moment and find consolation and smile that she is back home.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, at 10 AM, with services in Church of Our Saviour, County St., Somerset, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
