Joseph Medeiros, lifetime resident of Somerset and Swansea, passed away days before his 102nd birthday on June 4, 2020.
A WWII Army veteran, who served with the 786th Tank Battalion in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, he was a longtime employee of the former L.S. Gray Chevrolet of Swansea before enjoying his long retirement in the company of family and friends while pursuing his interests in gardening and home improvement and watershed projects.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Sophie (Felag) and his seven siblings – Dorothy Clark, Mary Merritt, Ernest Medeiros, Evelyn Dowling, Helen Fournier, Edward Medeiros, and Carolyn Severson and dear friends Lilian Viveiros and Helen Dragon. He is survived by his children Gregory, Donna (Ruthowsky) and Marsha (Weidenhammer).
A private funeral will be arranged by the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffington Street, Somerset, Massachusetts, with a memorial gathering to be scheduled at a future date.
Burial will take place in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
