Joanne W. Bixby

Joanne W. Bixby, 86, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was the loving wife of William L. Bixby.

Joanne was born in Duxbury, Vermont, and was a daughter of the late Warren and Frances (Hersey) Waldo.

Joanne was employed as a teacher's aide in the Attleboro Public Schools for many years and worked as a volunteer with the Attleboro Council on Aging, where she helped develop Attleboro's Larsen Senior Center. She wrote poetry and helped found the Attleboro Writers' Workshop. She loved music, played piano, and sang in Second Congregational Church Choir. She was a long time member of the Second Congregational Church and played an active role in church missions, including helping to resettle a Vietnamese refugee family. She loved nature and was at her happiest when she was camping with her family in Maine, the Maritime Provinces, and Newfoundland.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her sons Nathan Bixby and his wife Naomi Driesen of New Haven, CT, and Peter Bixby and his wife Jessica Bolker of Dover, NH; sister, Margaret Saridaki of FL; grandchildren, Aliyah, Solomon, and Eleanor; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Burnham Waldo, Everett Waldo, and Priscilla Armstrong.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11am, in the Second Congregational Church, 50 Park St., Attleboro.

Arrangements entrusted to Foley-Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, Attleboro.
