Hikmat Z. Yousif, 78, of Fairhaven, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, in New Bedford, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Kathleen M.(Pacheco) Yousif.
Born in Mosul, Iraq, son of the late Zia Bebba Yousif and Zakia (Mansour) Yousif, he came from Iraq, in 1963, and settled in Fairhaven, in 1970. Hikmat was an Insurance Representative for 20 years for John Hancock until his retirement at age 50. He was named to the Top 100 producers list many times during his time with the company.
Hikmat was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church, in New Bedford, where he was a member of the St. Joseph's Solidarity. He was a member of the social singles club, in Fairhaven, loved traveling the country and world with his wife and family. Visiting his family in Michigan, cooking and feeding people, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Steven J. Yousif and his wife Joan and their daughter, Mikayla of Fairhaven; his daughter, Karen M. Desjardins and her husband Ralph and their children, Tyler, Taylor, Tatiana and Tahira; two brothers, Nadir Yousif of Troy, MI and Nabeel Yousif and his wife Hana of Bloomfield, MI; two sisters, Nadira Ashoo of Sterling, MI and Widad Chenavo of SanDiego, CA; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Private arrangements were by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.
