Obituary

Gilbert DeCosta, 81, of Somerset, passed away peacefully Friday, July 20, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of 60 years to Carol A. (Siatkowski) DeCosta.

Born and raised in Somerset, son of the late Joseph and Florence (Silvia) DeCosta, he was a 1954 graduate of Somerset High School. He lived in Swansea prior to retiring to Ruskin, FL for 20 years. He returned to Somerset 10 years ago.

Gil was the sales manager at Bridgeman Lumber for twenty years. He continued to work in the lumber and hardware industry in Florida. He was a life member and former officer of the Fall River Elk's Lodge #1185 and a member of the South Hillsborough Elk's Lodge #2672 in Florida. An avid sports fan, Gil enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, Pawtucket Red Sox, and the Tampa Bay Rays. He also loved his New England Patriots, family gatherings and get togethers with friends and was an excellent cook.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Cheryl A. McDonald of Douglas and Joyce L. Honeycutt and her husband Craig of North Kingstown, RI; a son, Gary J. DeCosta, owner of Big G Construction in Somerset and his wife Gayle of Somerset; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister in law, Patricia DeCosta of Assonet and several nieces and nephews. Mr. DeCosta was the father of the late Gilbert DeCosta, Jr. And brother of the late John DeCosta and Nancy Raposa.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. DeCosta will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Fall River Elk's Lodge, 4500 N. Main Street, Fall River, on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 2-6pm. Family and Friends are invited to attend.

Arrangements are by the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.
