Obituary

George Barros, 82, of New Bedfor, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth.

Born in Taunton, son of the late Nicolau and Mary (Pina Sequeira) Barros, he lived in Taunton many years prior to settling in New Bedford 30 years ago. Mr. Barros served in the Army during the Korean War and later worked for the Commonwealth of MA Department of Mental Health until his retirement due to health reasons.

He attended services at the Salvation Army, was a Life Member of the DAV, Dr. Clarence Burt Chapter and was a Foster Grandparent.

He is survived by two sons, Ricardo Barros of CA and Darren Barros of Franklin; three daughters, Sharon Vargas, Margaret Barros and Tracey Rezendes all of New Bedford; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his longtime companion, Margaret Pina of New Bedford; a brother, Baptista Barros; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mr. Barros was predeceased by two children, George Barros, Jr. and Claire Barros and many brothers and sisters.

Calling hours are Thursday, from 5-8pm, in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.

His funeral service will be Friday, May 4, 2018, at 10AM, in the funeral home, followed by interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Taunton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
