Earl M. Faunce

Lt. Earl M. Faunce, Fairhaven FD Retired, 87, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 5, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 56 years, of Barbara M. (Sylvia) Faunce.

Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Albert Faunce, Jr. and Madelyn B.(Newell) Faunce, he settled in Fairhaven, in 1961, where he was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Earl served in the Air Force and also the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. He later served the Town of Fairhaven for 38 years as a Firefighter until his retirement as a lieutenant, in 1995.

He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local #1555, Chairman of the Town of Fairhaven Retirement Board, he taught Marine Firefighting at the Northeast Maritime Institute, a long time Town Meeting Member, member of the George H. Taber Masonic Lodge, AF & AM, as well as numerous other associations. Earl was a regular Mr. Fix It, very handy with all types of things. He loved teaching anything firefighting and telling stories but most of all, cherished his time spent with his family which was the most important thing to him.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, David M. Faunce and his wife Beth of Fairhaven and Joseph C. Bonneau of New Bedford; two daughters, Jean P. Faunce and her husband Thomas S. Dugan of Rochester and Jacqueline R. King of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Caitlin and her husband Alex, Megan, Kelsey, Julia and Connor; a great grandson, Bryant; a sister, Phyllis J. Faunce of Acushnet; and many in laws, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday, from 3-7pm, in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.

His funeral will be Friday, February 9, 2018, at 10:00am, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 11:00am, in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in Cushing Cemetery, in Mattapoisett.
