David F. Granfield

David F. Granfield, 68, of New Bedford, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Taunton, son of the late Thomas F. Granfield, Jr. and Eileen A. (McAloon) Granfield, original owners of the Granfield Driving School, in Taunton, for many years, David was a 1968 graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School and he received his Associate's degree from Bristol Community College. He had been a sales representative for New England Brass, as well as, a driving instructor for the family business.

David settled in New Bedford, in 1972. He coached baseball in the Greater New Bedford Little League when his sons were playing and was an avid sports fan rooting for all of the New England sports teams.

David was a 20yr Brain Aneurysm survivor who, with the help of many people, lived a very happy and prosperous life as a disabled human being.

David is survived by two sons, Brian Thomas Granfield and his wife Tina Furtado, and Matthew David Granfield, all of New Bedford; his former wife Arlene (Estrella) Jones of New Bedford; a brother, Robert Granfield and his wife Marian, of Lewiston, NY; a sister, Mary Ellen Benjamin and her husband Marc, of Taunton; sister-in- law, Anne Louise Thompson Granfield of ME, and former sister-in-law, Carol Granfield of FL. He is also survived by nieces, a nephew and a great niece. David was the brother of the late James Granfield.

Calling hours are Monday, from 4-7pm, in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 11am, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, in Taunton.
