Obituary

Charlene S. (Bessette) Barlow, 64, of South Dennis, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 1, 2019, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, in Boston. She was the wife of the late Steven Barlow.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Charlotte H. (Nader) Bessette and the late James Bessette, she lived most of her life in Fairhaven prior to settling in South Dennis 10 years ago. Charlene was a 1972 graduate of Bishop Stang High School and she attended Providence College. She had worked as a receptionist at the Dennis Senior Center but her passion was painting. She was a gifted artist and taught painting.

Charlene loved the beach and enjoyed kayaking with her husband. She also enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends and attending family gatherings and holidays. She especially loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, her dog Ollie and all animals. Charlene was a giving person, even opening her home to those in need.

She is survived by her sisters, Tammy Stephens and her husband David of Dartmouth, Heidi Bessette and her fiancé Paul Martin of Somerset and Holly Deluca and her fiancé Timothy McGuire of Fall River; her brother, Christopher Bessette of Fall River; nine nieces and nephews, Patrick, Christopher and Michael Stephens, Bethany Bettencourt, Samantha Chapman, Zachary and Teddy Bessette, Richard Deluca and Nicholas Medeiros; nine great nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours are Friday, from 4-6pm, in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. Her funeral will be Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 8AM, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
