Antone "Tony" Medeiros of North Port, FL, formerly of North Dighton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 9th, 2017, at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Ferreira), the only love of his life.
Born in Taunton, Tony spent his childhood on Sao Miguel, Azores, returning to Taunton at the age of nine. As a young man he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and later served as a corporal in the US Army in Italy during the Occupation. Tony was employed as a steam engineer at Mount Hope Finishing Company, Whittenton Mills, and Taunton State Hospital. After his retirement 34 years ago, Tony and Mary moved to North Port, FL and were active in the San Pedro Catholic Church of North Port, FL. A man of Faith, Tony felt blessed to call Father Pat, the pastor, his friend and teacher. He was well liked by many for his graciousness and his spirit of gratitude. He will be missed.
He is survived by his four children: Richard Medeiros of Conway, South Carolina; Patricia Long of Foot Hill Ranch, California; Kathleen Cronan of East Freetown; and Marilyn Crawford of North Dighton. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Father Pat, Tony's parish family at San Pedro, his caring neighbors, Dick and Lynn Prater, and the many friends who made it possible for him to maintain his independence and dignity until very recently. He was never happier than he was in North Port.
He will be cremated, and his remains will be carried back to North Port to rest with those of his beloved Mary. Calling hours are omitted in accordance with his wishes.
Funeral Mass will be held at San Pedro Catholic Church of North Port, FL at a later date. Local arrangements are with the Crapo Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton, MA.
