Joseph G. Souza, 71, of Little Compton, Fall River, and Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was the life partner of Patricia M. Daley for 38 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph Souza and the late Mary (Pavao) Souza, he grew up as an athlete in Fall River, playing football, basketball, and baseball for BMC Durfee High School. He participated with the 1964 championship basketball team. He also spent many summers at Briggs Beach, in Little Compton.
He worked as a truck driver for Capaldi, later known as P.J. Keating Construction for many years. Joe will be remembered for his spark and quick sense of humor which often made him the life of gatherings with family and friends. He was a devoted NY Yankees fan, having in recent years started a goal of visiting every American League ball park to see his favorite beloved Yankees play. He was a member of the Elks, in Bristol, RI, and a regular for workouts at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fall River. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 251.
Besides Pat, he is survived by his daughter Heather Rodrigues and her husband Richard of St. Petersburg, FL; a brother, Michael Souza of Mansfield, a sister Elaine Raposa of Tiverton, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Patricia Cippolini and the late Lillian Medeiros.
His funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 7. 2017, at 9AM, from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River with a 10 AM funeral mass in Holy Name Church, Hanover St., Fall River. Burial will follow in the Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
