DIGHTON – Catherine F. (Gomes) Yelle, 61, of County Street in Dighton, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Country Gardens Nursing Center in Swansea. She was born in North Dighton, the daughter of Louise (Gracia) Gomes of North Dighton and the late Joseph S. Gomes.

Mrs. Yelle was a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth High School with the Class of 1964, and then attended the Rhode Island School of Design. She began her professional life working as a land surveyor for the Otis Dyer Surveying Company in Rehoboth. She then worked for the Mary Kay Cosmetics Company. Subsequently she owned her own business, Cats Prints, which specialized in upholstery, crafts, and graphic design. She was very involved with the Town of Dighton for many years, serving as secretary of the Planning Board, a member of the Historical Society, and helping restore the old school house. She also helped design a logo for Dighton Rock.

Mrs. Yelle was a very active member with Grace Gospel Church in Swansea, where she taught Sunday school to young children, and illustrated and implemented a curriculum for the children. She also enjoyed photography, writing, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Yelle is survived by a son, Joshua S. Yelle of Dighton; four sisters, Barbara L. Heywood of Attleboro, Rosemary A. Lopes of Taunton, Margaret A. Philbrook of Smithfield, and Joanne Ransley of Dighton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at 11:00AM in the Grace Gospel Church, 271 Sharps Lot Rd., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Dighton Community Church Cemetery. All arrangements have been lovingly entrusted to the care of the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, where calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
