Christopher Lawrence Botelho, of Fairhaven passed away February 8, 2017 after a sudden illness.
Born in New Bedford, May 8, 1961 he was the son of Diane L. (Despres) Botelho of Fairhaven and the late Robert Botelho.
He is survived by his mother and his wife, Karen (Fleurent) Botelho and their three children, Dustin and his wife Erin of Rehoboth, Kendra Previte and her husband Drew of South Kingston, RI and Jared of Fairhaven; siblings, Robert and his wife Tammy, Kevin and his wife Traci and Amanda Botelho; also survived by his grandchildren, Annah and Drew Previte, Courtney and Ethan Botelho and several nieces and nephews.
Christopher spent most of his life at sea as a commercial fisherman combing George’s Bank for scallops. He took pride in his profession at one time earning the title, U.S. Scallop Shucking Champ. When he was on land, he was a devoted husband, loving father and close friend to many. His friends knew him for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. His family knew him as a kind and gentle hearted teddy bear earning him the grandparent nickname of “Pooh”. He had a strong love for all sports, especially basketball. He will be missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Christopher and his father Robert, who passed away on February 1, 2017, on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11am in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., in Fairhaven. Private burial will be held by the family.
Arrangements are by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
