William D. Campbell

William D. Campbell, 80, of Highland Road in Somerset passed away Tuesday August 22, 2006 at his residence. He was the husband of fifty three years to Doris (Thwaite) Campbell. Born in Fall River, MA on June 5, 1926 the son of the late William A. and Sarah (Southworth) Campbell. He was a veteran of WWII with the United States Navy, after serving his country he returned home and graduated from BMC Durfee High school class of 1945, after graduation he attended the former Bradford Durfee Tech. Mr. Campbell worked for Montaup Electric in Somerset as an engineer for thirty years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Campbell also worked for the Town of Somerset as a sealer in the Weight & Measures department. He was a member of Christ Church in Swansea, and very involved in officiating in Southeastern Massachusetts as a baseball umpire and football official, he also was the past president of the Southeastern Mass Baseball Umpires Association, former member of the Southeastern Mass Football Official Association, member of Fall River Country Club, Mount Hope Lodge AF & AM, Selection Committee Member for the Block of Granite Award.
Survivors beside his wife of fifty three years are two daughters Gayle S. Lynch of Burlington MA and Wendy R. Tessier of Somerset, MA, four grandchildren Jerome, Shannon, Justin, and Trevor, and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ruth Whitlock.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9am from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA followed by a funeral service at 10am in Christ Church 57 Main St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow with MILITARY HONORS in Christ Church Cemetery. CALLING HOURS FRIDAY 4-7pm
