FALL RIVER – William R. Eccles, Sr., 94, formerly of the Academy Building in Fall River, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Catholic Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late William and Martha (Mulcahey), he was the husband of the late Emily (Green) Eccles.

Mr. Eccles served his country with the 122nd Battalion during WWII with the United States Navy Seabees. He started working as a truck driver for the American Thread Company and then for Terry Brook Print & Dye as a yard foreman. Bill then went to work for the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Fall River for eighteen years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the former Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fall River.

Mr. Eccles leaves two sons, William R. Eccles, Jr., of Somerset, MA, and Drew D. Eccles of Cranston, RI. He was the loving grandfather of Erin, William, III, Jennifer, Justin, Kaitlin, Zachary, and Maria, and the great-grandfather of Dylan and Brandon.

Funeral Information

A Requiem Eucharist will be held Monday, April 6, 2009, at 10:00AM in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 160 Rock St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend by coming directly to the Church. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
