NEW BEDFORD – Capt. Stanley Walsh, 84, of Fairhaven, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of fifty-eight years of The Rev. Mary (Newsham) Walsh. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank Walsh and the late Clara (Wilkerson) Riding, he was a lifelong Fairhaven resident, who in his early years did local commercial fishing. Stanley attended the Fairhaven Public Schools and was a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marines, serving in the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone. Capt. Walsh worked as a barge captain for the Morania Transport Co. his last twenty-five years prior to retirement. He particularly enjoyed sailing and racing with his son and grandson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Stanley Walsh, Jr., and his spouse, Diane of Freetown; a brother, Frank Walsh, Jr., of Franklin; two grandchildren, Karen Walsh of New Bedford and Ryan Walsh of Freetown and New Bedford; a great grandson, Cyrus J. Gonsalves of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Walsh was the brother of the late Gordon and Donald Walsh. Funeral InformationCalling hours will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2007, from 2:00-5:00PM at the FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. His funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2007, at 11:00AM at The Potter’s House and Chapel, 60 Cedar Street, Fairhaven, followed by interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
