View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NEW BEDFORD – Elsie "Voa" (Espindola) Barboza, 82, of New Bedford, died Friday, May 2, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, after a long illness. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel A. and the late Mary (Mendonca) Espindola, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was the wife of the late George Barboza.
Mrs. Barboza was a devoted caregiver to many of her friends. She enjoyed knitting and baking cookies for her family and friends, watching golf and ice skating, and spending time with her family and friends.
She leaves her daughter-in-law, Judith Barboza, with whom she lived for the past two years in Fairhaven; two grandsons, Jason W. Barboza and his wife Monica of Freetown and Adam R. Barboza and his wife Susan of Acushnet; and several dear nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barboza was the mother of the late George Barboza, Jr., and Nancy A. Barboza. She was also the sister of the late Albert and Delphina Espindola and Evelyn Britto.
Funeral Information
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 4, from 2:00-5:00PM in THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Her funeral service will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 10:00AM in the funeral home followed by interment in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
