ASSONET – Francis O. Walsh, 83, of Slab Bridge Rd., Assonet, died on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, March 2, 1924, the son of the late Edward P. and Martha (Anderson) Walsh, he was the husband of fifty-six years of Ruth (Copeland) Walsh.

Mr. Walsh graduated with the Class of 1947 of BMC Durfee High School, following which he attended Bryant College. Following college he served his country with the U S Army. He then worked as a boilermaker for the Local Union #29 in Boston for more than thirty years before retiring in 1988.

Mr. Walsh was a member of the American Legion Post #425 in Assonet and completed thirty years of service to the Freetown Fire Department, retiring as deputy chief.

Besides his wife, Mr. Walsh is survived by two daughters, Deborah Pilotte of Swansea, and Rebecca O’Connor of Fall River; a son, Edward Paul Walsh of Assonet; a sister, Elsie Spellman of Attleboro; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Patricia Sarosiek, and the brother of the late Rheta Greenough, Helen Cholewa, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, Raymond, and Frederick Walsh.
