TAUNTON – Alexander "Buzz” Ferreira, 77, died Monday, January 18, 2010, in Morton Hospital in Taunton after a short illness. Born in East Taunton, the son of the late Alexandre and Theresa (Vieira) Ferreira, he was the husband of Priscilla M. (Henry) Ferreira, with whom he shared a fifty-seven year marriage. A 1950 graduate of Taunton High School, Buzz served his country during the Korean War as a corporal in the U. S. Army. He was a retired building maintenance manager for the former New England Tel and Tel Company at the Taunton Office. He retired in 1987, after having worked for more than twenty-four years at NE Tel and Tel and NYNEX. Mr. Ferreira was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. A member of the former St. Joseph’s Church in North Dighton, he received the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River, and was a founder and head coach for CYO sports at the church. He also coached Pop Warner Football and was a member of both the THS Diamond and Gridion Clubs. He enjoyed boating and all sports occurring in New England. Buzz was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club. In addition to his beloved wife, Buzz is survived by his children, Leslie Leitao and her husband Ronald of Taunton, and Michael Ferreira and his wife Mary of East Taunton. He was the grandfather of Todd Leitao, Lindsay Jenkins and her husband Hank, Matthew Ferreira and his wife Christine and Meghan Ferreira; and the great-grandfather of Gabe Leitao, Jacob Ferreira, Elise Ferreira and Juliet Ferreira. Buzz was the brother of Dorothy Dias of Taunton and the late Pauline Mallette and David Ferreira. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alice Henry of Taunton; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and William Henry of California, Cheryl and Arthur Leary of Middleboro, and Joan Henry of Taunton. Funeral InformationRelatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton Friday, January 22, 2010, at 11:00AM. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 21, from 4:00-8:00PM in the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
