View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON–Maria D. Reis, 49, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a short illness. Born in St Michael, the Azores, the daughter of the late Manuel and Fatima De Mederios, after her parents died when she was a young girl, she was adopted by her grandparents, the late Antonio and Julia de Reis.
Maria had been a resident of Taunton since the age of nine. When her adoptive parents died, she was cared for and loved by her aunt and uncle, Maria Isabella and Ernesto Deniz of Taunton. She was the very special “sister” of Nely Benjamin of North Dighton. Maria enjoyed working at PRIDE and going to Bethany House day care.
Maria is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Conceicao Verao, Cedalia Cabral, Manuel Reis, all of Canada; Fernanda DaSilva, Anna Carvalho, and Leonora Gonsalves, all of Taunton; and the late Antonio Reis. Maria is also survived by cousins in Taunton, Canada and Portugal.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Monday, December 14, 2009, at 9:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Anthony’s Church, 126 School St., Taunton, at 10:00AM, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday, December 13, from 4:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
