FALL RIVER – Liliane E. Tawa, 54, died Thursday, May 16, 2007, at Women & Infants Hospital, Providence, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, she was the daughter of Elie and Nelly (Aris) Tawa. Liliane lived most of her life in Beirut, moved briefly to Fall River in the early 70’s, then returned to her beloved Lebanon in 1974. Fluent in three languages, she worked as an airline attendant and later in various embassies in Europe and the Middle East.

In 1992 Ms. Tawa helped begin Sagesse High School in Ain Saadeh, Lebanon, as its Director of Admissions and Public Relations. As a beach lover and avid skier, she took yearly trips to sun-splashed islands and Alpine resorts.

She leaves her parents of Fall River, MA; one son, Johnathan Chakhtoura of Jamaica Plain, Boston; four brothers, Charles and Allen Tawa of Boulder, Colorado, Roger Tawa of Newton, MA; Bob Tawa of Westport, MA; and one sister, Claude Phares of Villanova, PA.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 9:30AM in Saint Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 North Eastern Avenue, Fall River, with Monsignor Edgar Madi, officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Friday at the HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, from 4:00-8:00PM.
