View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Janna E. (Jacobsen) Isaksen passed away the 15th of November 2005. She was 93 years old. Janna was born on January 19, 1912 in Rasvag, Norway. She grew up there along with three brothers and a sister, all of whom she survives. She was thankful for her eventful life.
She moved to New York in 1928 where she met and married Magnus Isaksen in 1935, and who preceded her in death in 1979. They had a son, John Edward in 1936. Magnus served in the Navy during World War II. Janna was called home during this time to help with her ailing father. While there, she was taken prisoner by the invading German army and brought to a concentration camp in Oslo where she remained for six months. After the war, Magnus and Janna settled in New Bedford. They soon moved to North Dartmouth where they raised five more children. Janna volunteered as a member of the Alter Guild, Women's Sewing Circle and Ladies Aid for Trinity Lutheran Church. It was through her years as a Sunday School teacher that she endeared herself to so many children who still remember her as Tante (aunt) Janna.
Janna's survivors include two daughters, Marian Cook and her husband Preston of South Dartmouth, Serene Miller and her husband Nicholas of Georgia; four sons, John and his wife Ellen of Fairhaven, Harold and his wife Judy of North Dartmouth, Einar and his wife Cheryl of Canton, and Nils and his wife Kathleen of Fairhaven.
