View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON – Maria (dos Anjos) Ventura, 98, died Monday, April 13, 2009, in the Taunton Nursing Home. Born in the village of Rabo de Peixe in Sao Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Antonio Tavares Ledo and Maria Agusta Brum, Mrs. Ventura came to the United States in 1969 and lived in West Warwick, RI, before making her home for many years in Taunton.
She worked hard to support her family and was a dedicated wife to the late Francisco Resende and the late Manuel J. Ventura, Sr. She had a love for music and her family and friends were often entertained by the sounds of her strumming her fingers on her beloved guitar all while singing her favorite Portuguese tunes. She was a wonderful loving grandmother, who lived her life to the fullest and touched each person she met along the way. All were greeted with a smile, a wave and three words she always said, “ I love you.”
She was a communicant of both St. Anthony’s Parishes in West Warwick and Taunton. She was a member of Holy Rosary Sodality at St. Anthony’s in West Warwick. Mrs. Ventura made God and her religion a spiritual priority as she recited her prayers and encouraged others to do the same. While the Lord was her spiritual priority, her family always took precedent, and she enjoyed being surrounded by family, whether it was a large celebration, a feast, or just a simple visit remembering her past.
She is survived by her five children, Alvaro Resende and his wife Laura of West Warwick, RI, Maria Andrade and her husband Herman of Taunton; Jose Resende and his wife Lucia of Sao Miguel, Azores, Luis Resende and his wife Lurdes of Taunton, and Gabriela Torres and her husband Jose of Taunton. She was the step-mother of Mary Barreto and Sylvia Andre, both of West Warwick, RI, and the late Manuel, John, Joseph and Anthony Ventura. Mrs. Ventura was the cherished grandmother of twenty-five, the great-grandmother of fifty-six; and the great-great-grandmother of six. She was the aunt of several.
Funeral Information
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Thursday, April 16, 2009, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 126 School Street, Taunton, at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Taunton. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 15, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
