ATTLEBORO – Leo O. Bellavance, 90, of Robert St., Attleboro, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Golden Living Center of Attleboro. Born in Norton, MA , a son of the late Oscar & Blanche (Champagne) Bellavance, he was the husband of Gloriana (Guillmette) Bellavance, with whom he shared more than sixty-seven years of marriage. A resident of Attleboro for the past sixty-three years, hailing from Norton, Mr. Bellavance was a WWII Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving as a Corporal in the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Campaigns, as well as the American Theatre Campaign, receiving three service stars. He was employed as a printer for the St. Regis Company for over twenty-five years before retiring in 1982, and had also worked for the Balfour Company for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 56, North Attleboro, VFW Post 115 of Attleboro, and the American Legion Post 20 of Attleboro. Leo was a longtime volunteer for the Capron Park Zoo, and the Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He visited nursing homes to visit veterans with the D.A.V., was an award winner for the John Holmes Award, and had run in the Master Olympics as a sprinter, and was a devoted father. He received the Fred F. Holmes Citizenship Award and “The Good Citizenship Award for Volunteerism” in 1999. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Bellavance of West Yarmouth, MA, and George Bellavance of Rehoboth, MA; a daughter, Diane Bellavance, Ph.D., of Boston, MA; two sisters, Ruth Czerwonka and Anna Mae Howe, both of Norton, MA; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Raymond and Armand Bellavance, Louise Bussieree, and the late Ida Bliss. Funeral InformationHis funeral will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 9:00AM from the FOLEY - HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 S. Main St., Attleboro, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Joseph Church, 208 S. Main St., Attleboro, with a private burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
