Clyde Newland, 81 years old, died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence on February 20, 2006. Born in Glasgow, KY on August 25, 1924 he was the husband of Jean (Josselyn) Newland.

A WWII veteran serving as a Medic, he was stationed in Taunton where he met his wife and settled there raising their three children. He graduated from Bradford Durfee Technological Institute was a degree in textile chemistry, eventually founding his own firm, New-Pro Chemical in Taunton. He was longtime member and past president of Junior Chamber of Commerce, a former park commissioner and a deacon at the Union Congregational Church all in Taunton. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved to Marion, MA where he was just as devoted to his neighbors as he had been while living in Taunton. A proud Kentucky colonel, he was an innovative chemist, a successful gardener, cook and quahogger.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Roberta Stuart and her husband John of Norwalk,CT and Debra Norige and her husband Mark of North Attleboro, and a son Jay Newland of Norwalk,CT; seven grandchildren, Peter Stellings Stuart, Katherine Josselyn Stuart, Adam Stuart Norige, Erica Kristen Norige, Zachary Pierce Norige;, John Maxwell Norige and Anna Rae Newland.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends may attend a time of memorialization in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., (Route 138 South) Taunton on Friday evening August 11. 2006 between 5 and 8PM. At 7PM family members will offer reflections on Clyde’s life.
