NEW BEDFORD – Rosendo Jorge, 78, of New Bedford, died after a long illness on Thursday, March 15, 2007, in the New Bedford Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Justina (Popar) Jorge. Born in Puerto Rico, the son of the late Juan and the late Jovita (Rodriguez) Jorge, he came to New Bedford in 1952.

He was the former pastor of the Church of the Living God and a member of the Assembly of Christian Churches in New Bedford. Mr. Jorge was employed as an assembler at International Dryer for twenty years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, John and Mark Jorge; four step-sons, Israel, Ismael, Abner and Angel Rivera; two-step daughters, Nelly and Emerida Rivera; a brother, Santiago Jorge; two sisters, Maria Velasquez and Mirita Maldonado; four grandchildren; a special niece, Sandra Morales, and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Jorge was the brother of the late Marguerita Alejandro and Anita Azevedo.

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be held Monday, March 19, 2007, at 10:00AM in the DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
