SWANSEA – James F. Martin Jr., 90, of Swansea, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Mabel (Killen) Dollard Martin. Born in Newport, RI, the son of the late James F. Martin Sr. and the late Margaret J. (Dixon) Martin, he served his country during WWII with the United States Army.

Mr. Martin was the owner of Jim’s Automotive Service in Fall River for forty years before retiring in 1986. Jim was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a member of the Montaup Country Club in Portsmouth, RI, and the Hidden Hollow Country Club in Rehoboth, MA. He bowled for the United Methodist Church bowling league and the Central Congregational Church bowling league.

Mr. Martin is survived by a son, William H. Martin of Swansea, MA; a step-daughter Ruth Rousseau of Sherman Oaks, CA; a step-son, Roy Dollard of Fall River; fifteen grandchildren and several great and great--great grandchildren. He was the father of the late James F. Martin, III.

Funeral Information

His Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 21, 2009, at 10:00AM in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, with calling hours prior from 9:00-10:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend; burial with MILITARY HONORS will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
