View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Margaret (Hughes) DeLong, 82, of Fairhaven died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Our Lady's Haven, Fairhaven after a long illness. She was the widow of the late Edwin I. DeLong.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Minnie (Thomas) Hughes. She attended New Bedford Public Schools and at the start of World War II, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC).
She served in several Army installations in California, New Jersey and Kentucky and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sargent.
She accepted a Civil Service position in 1948 with the United States Bureau of Engraving in Washington D. C. and during the following years she worked upward in job assignments and retired from the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) as a Purchasing Agent in 1978.
Along with her late husband Edwin I. DeLong, she moved to a new home in Milo, Hawaii.
She is survived by a brother, David G. Hughes of Fairhaven. She was the sister of the late James T. Hughes.
