(Desrosiers) Callaghan, 96, a former resident of Assonet for fifty years, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the Clifton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Josephine (Daigle) Desrosiers, she was the widow of Joseph F. Callaghan, who passed away in 1966.
Mrs. Callaghan raised her family for several years, and then worked as a home health aid with the Bristol County Elder Services until the age of 75, retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of Saint Bernard Church in Assonet, a former member of the Women’s Guild, and the Tuesday Club of Assonet.
Mrs. Callaghan leaves a daughter, Cynthia A. Hazard and her husband Walter of Middleboro; two sons, Joseph F. Callaghan, Jr., and his wife Hilda of West Warwick, RI, and Michael P. Callaghan and his wife Mary of Tiverton. She was the grandmother of Paul Callaghan and his wife Danielle, Matthew Callaghan, Katherine Callaghan and her husband Patrick Coyle, David and Rachel Hazard and Daniel Doherty; and the great-grandmother of Ryan and Sean Callaghan. She was the sister of the late Blanche Carroll and Joseph L. Desrosiers.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Saint Bernard Church, 32 Main St., Assonet. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Fall River. CALLING HOURS with VIDEO PHOTO will be held Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30PM.
