View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Robert L. Jackson, 83, of Somerset, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Denver, Colorado, the son of the late Robert L. and Mary (Crowley) Jackson, he was the husband of Barbara (Dagata) Jackson, with whom he shared forty-seven years of marriage.
A 1944 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Mr. Jackson served his country during WWII with the United States Army. He then worked for the Spaulding Brick Company in Somerville, MA, and Cranston, RI, for thirty-two years, retiring in 1994, as vice president. Mr. Jackson volunteered as a clown at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was a communicant of Saint Thomas More Church in Somerset. Robert was a charter member of the Colonial Navy of Massachusetts and a former member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed reading, traveling, woodcarving, and drawing. Mr. Jackson also took art courses for several years. His true joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors beside his wife include two daughters, Mary Ellen Gay of Houston, TX, and Julie McDonald of Somerset, MA; three sons, Robert L. Jackson of Somerset, John F. Jackson of Berkley, MA, and Jeffrey J. Jackson of Brentwood, NH; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Jean Dubuc.
Funeral Information
His funeral service will be held Monday, July 6, 2009, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1000AM in Saint Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow with full military honours in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be held Sunday, July 5, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
