View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Rita Y. (DeCoste) Demers, 85, of Wamsutta Rd., Somerset, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Warren & Mary (Tallen) DeCoste, she was the wife of the late Charles Demers.
A Somerset resident most of her life, Rita was a cashier in the cafeteria for the Somerset Public School Department for over thirty years before retiring. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, a member of the Somerset Bowling League for over thirty years, and an avid bowler. Mrs. Demers was very family oriented.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Claudette Demers – Gendreau and her husband Frank Gendreau of Raynham, and Denise and her husband Patrick Shea of Somerset. She was the grandmother of Jeffrey Silvia, Jared Silvia, Dr. Keith Gendreau, Lt. Col. Craig Gendreau, Kyle Gendreau, and the great-grandmother of Jeffrey Silvia, Janey Silvia, Nicholas Gendreau, Nathan Gendreau, Noah Gendreau, Elijah Gendreau, Madeline Gendreau, Meredith Gendreau, Adam Gendreau, Violet Silvia, Emily Gendreau, and Marcelo Gendreau.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 8:00 am from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset, with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 am prior to the funeral Mass.
