View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Loretta (Desrosiers) Alua, 75, of Eagle Lane, Somerset, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at home. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Eugene & Rose (Cadieux) Desrosiers, she was the wife of the late William Alua.
A resident of Somerset since 1984, having come from Fall River, and a parishioner of St. Louis de France Church in Swansea, Mrs. Alua worked as a supervisor at the service desk at the Ann & Hope Store in Seekonk, MA, for more than twenty years before retiring in 1997. Prior to that she had been employed at the former Stella Ann Manufacturing Company as a seamstress.
Loretta was a member of the St. Louis de France Church Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, where she was also a Bingo volunteer. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, loved to dance prior to her diagnosis of Syringomyelia, and also enjoyed card playing, gardening, and having Sunday dinners with her family. Her friendships were dear to her.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Alua-Rioux and her husband David Rioux of Swansea, and Sandra Alua and her wife Debbie Butler of Somerset; three brothers, Roland Desrosiers of Stockton, California, Alban Desrosiers of Tucson, Arizona, and Richard Desrosiers Fall River; three sisters, Lillian Lafleur and Lorraine Gaudreau, both of Somerset, and Idola Pelletier of Swansea. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of Danny Alua-Rioux and Diandra Bowers; and the great-grandmother of Destani Alua–Rioux and Dakota Alua–Rioux. She was the sister of the late Doris Barnabe.
Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 2, 2010, at 9:30am in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea, with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Those attending the funeral Mass are invited to report directly to the Church. Calling hours and flowers are otherwise respectfully omitted.
