FORT PIERCE, FL – Armand Joseph Joncas, 85, of Fort Pierce, FL, formerly of Somerset, MA, and a summer resident of Sandwich, MA, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the St. Lucie Hospice House in Fort Pierce, FL. Born in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Alexander and Florence (Lauzon) Joncas, he was the husband of Theresa (LaBrie) Joncas, with whom he shared sixty-four years of marriage.

Mr. Joncas graduated from BMC Durfee High School in 1941. A Combat Veteran, he served with the United States Merchant Marine during WWII. Armand was employed as an engineer by Eastern Utilities for thirty-four years, retiring in 1988. He held membership in American Legion Post 0188, Sandwich, and VFW Post 8500, Somerset. He enjoyed fishing; the history of WWII; and most importantly, spending time with his family.

His children are Armand J. (Carmelene) Joncas, Jr., of Branford, CT, David M. (Laura) Joncas of Gilford, NH, Cathy L. (Darren) Doane of Rehoboth, MA, and Madeline F. Jernigan of Port St. Lucie, FL. Besides his wife, and his children, he is survived by his brother, Philip Joncas of Fall River. He was the loving Papa to eight grandchildren, Alexandra, Timothy, Steve, Krista, Lindsey, Matthew, Jonathan, and Timmy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Monday, March 2, 2009, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Saint Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held this Sunday, March 1, from 3:00-6:00PM in the funeral home.
