View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Edgar J. Martel, 91, of Getchell St., North Smithfield, RI, died on Thursday, September 27, 2007, in the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Arthur and Albertine (Geoffroy) Martel, he was the husband of Therese C. (Bibeault) Martel and the late Doria (Donais) Martel.
Mr. Martel resided in North Smithfield for the past thirty-five years, having previously lived in Woonsocket most of his life. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Woonsocket and a Knight of Malta and a Knight of Columbus.
Mr. Martel served as the past president and treasurer of the Union St. Jean de Baptiste Fraternal Insurance Company of Woonsocket for twenty-five years, before retiring in 1995. He served on the Board of Directors of the Landmark Medical Center, the Hospice St. Antoine, the Marquette Credit Union and the Stone House Credit Union. He was a lifetime member of the Elks in Woonsocket, a member of the Woonsocket Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Club Richelieu.
Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Arthur H. and his wife Suzette Martel of Indiana, PA; one stepson, Robert P. and his wife Mildred R. Godin of Gloucester, RI; two stepdaughters, Suzanne J. Poisson of North Smithfield, and Michelle F. and her husband Joseph Cahill of Fairless Hills, PA; two grandsons, Glenn and Craig Martel; seven step- grandchildren; and three step-great-grand children.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007, at 9:00AM from THE MENARD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Carrington Avenue, Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Holy Family Church, 414 South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow the funeral Mass in the Family Lot in Precious Blood Cemetery, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00-8:00PM.
