Helen (Sylvia) Kosydar

NEW BEDFORD – Helen (Sylvia) Kosydar, 89, of Fairhaven, died unexpectedly Monday, December 28, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Kosydar.

Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Manuel and the late Piedade Maria (Garcia) Sylvia, she was a lifelong resident of the town and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.

Mrs. Kosydar was a homemaker who loved playing with her great-grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following all of the local professional teams.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Cottrell and her husband Richard of Westport; a son, Dennis B. Kosydar and his wife Natalie of Bedford, NH; a sister, Evelyn Cuddy of Fairhaven; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kosydar was the sister of the late Joseph Sylvia.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be Monday, January 4, 2010, at 9:00AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in River-Side Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, January 3, from 2:00-5:00PM in the funeral home.
