John F. Veloza Jr.

SWANSEA – John F. Veloza, Jr. 85, of Swansea, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at the Somerset Ridge Center in Somerset. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John F. Veloza Sr. and Mary (Medeiros) Veloza, he was the husband of Georgiana “Ginger” (Pontes) Veloza, with whom he shared sixty-two years of marriage.

Mr. Veloza worked as a boat builder for Pearson Yacht and Grumman Allied Yacht in Bristol for twenty years, retiring in 1984. A communicant of Saint Dominic Church in Swansea, he enjoyed salt water fishing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Veloza leaves two daughters, Linda M. St. Laurent of Sebring, FL, and Cynde Urban of North Dighton, MA; a son, John A. Veloza of Tiverton, RI; a brother, Americo Veloza of Somerset; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel Veloza.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 8:00AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Saint Dominic Church, 1277 GAR Hwy., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2009, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
