Joseph A. Garant, 84, of Swansea died Friday, September 29, 2006 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Knight) Garant. Born and brought up in Fall River, the son of the late Arthur and the late Mary (Gildea) Garant, he lived in Swansea for the past 60 years and was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church in Somerset.

Mr. Garant served in the Coast Guard during WWII and the Navy, on the USS Midway, during the Korean War. He was a brick mason for many years in the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2045 of Swansea. Mr. Garant was an avid wood worker and gardener.

He is survived by a son, Wayne A. Garant and his wife Gayle of West Warwick, RI; a daughter, Janice Hoffman and her husband Lawrence of Playa del Carmen, Mexico and Moultonborough, NH; a sister, Elizabeth “May” Gordon of Detroit, Michigan; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Arrangements are by the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Monday at 9:00 AM from the HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., FALL RIVER followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas More Church, Somerset. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours are Sunday from 5-8 PM.
