FAIRHAVEN – William F. Machado, 87, of Fairhaven, and formerly of Richmond Street, New Bedford, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, peacefully at home after a long illness. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel F. and the late Mary Clementina Cordoza (Goulart) Machado, he was the husband of the late Edna (McLeod) Machado. A lifelong resident of the city, Mr. Machado graduated with the Class of 1940 of New Bedford Vocational High School and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Machado met and married his wife, Edna, while working in the circus. The two traveled extensively while with the circus. He later worked as a machinist at Aerovox, Cornell Dubilier and J. C. Rhodes. Mr. Machado was the owner-operator of the Lamp and Shade Shoppe on Court Street in New Bedford from 1967 until retiring in 1985. He later worked for C. E. Beckman after retirement. He was an avid collector of circus items and antique tools. Mr. Machado is survived by his dear friends, Jeffrey and Kellie Medeiros, with whom he lived in Fairhaven. Funeral InformationHis funeral will be Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 9:00AM from THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, New Bedford.
