TAUNTON – George P. Tenikos, 89, died at his home Tuesday, July 15, 2008, under the care of his family and Hospice. Born in Taunton, the son of the late George and Alice (Vinefska) Tenikos, he was the husband of Catherine (Castro) Tenikos, with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage. Educated in the Taunton Public Schools, Mr. Tenikos was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army, serving his country as a fire fighter. Following his military service, Mr. Tenikos was employed at Defiance Bleachery, and then as a recreational therapist at Paul A. Dever State School and then at the Taunton State Hospital. After his retirement in 1984, he performed janitorial duties at the office of his son-in-law, Dr. Michael Broutsas, worked in the store front of the Perry Rug Company, and volunteered in the Pharmacy Department of Morton Hospital, where his daughter Cathy Broutsas is employed as a pharmacist. He was a proud member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks, #150, where he was the Tiler for many years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Taunton. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, watching sports, especially the Red Sox, and being with his family. Mr. Tenikos is survived by his wife, Catherine Tenikos of Taunton; his daughter, Cathy Broutsas and her husband Michael Broutsas of Taunton; a dear friend and care-giver, Alice Cole; and his grand dogs, Alisa and Niblick, whom he adored. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Coffey, Helen Nelson, Vincent Tenikos and John Tenikos. Funeral InformationHis funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 10:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, Taunton, at 11:00AM. Interment will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Friday, July 18, from 4:00-8:00PM.
