Frank E. Kostka Sr.
April 12, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, Frank E. Kostka Sr., who died peacefully at home, on April 12, 2017, at the age of 91.
Dad was a lifelong resident of Taunton, MA, an avid hiker, target shooter, outdoors-man and all round prankster. Known for his hand signals he shocked many a patron of Joe's Diner. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and Taunton High School graduate. He attended Northeastern University where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was a registered engineer with a specialty in highway drainage systems working on many interstate roadways in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Although he denied it he was rumored to know how to make water run uphill. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Appalachian Mountain Club, Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club and the NRA. Dad was a great husband and the father of three children. He provided loving home care to his wife, our mother, Phyllis Dixon (Higginbotham) Kostka, during her 10 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. He taught us self sufficiency, perseverance and benevolence. He expanded of the Kostka family by reaching out and assisting many members of my sister's extended family. Dad was there for people and brightened the days of many a Boy Scout and family friends with trips to New Hampshire's White Mountains where we stayed in a rustic hunting lodge without running water or inside plumbing. Climbs of Mt. Cardigan were a must for all and Dad continued that trek well into his eighties. He climbed every peak above 4000' in the Appalachian Mountain range.
Dad is survived by his three children, their spouses and their children: Arthur and his wife Maisy (Ng) Kostka; Frank Jr., his wife Lora Gross-Kostka, their sons, Sean Kostka and Philip Kostka and his fiancée Kristin Feeney; and Joyce (Kostka) Sevasin, her husband Rick Sevasin, their son, James Sevasin, daughter Makayla Sevasin, son Miguel Sevasin and extended family members who Dad was like a grandfather to; Chino Young, Maricela Butler, Samantha Butler and Chris Butler.
