Lucien J. Dion

FALL RIVER, MA - Lucien J. Dion, 88, of Fall River, passed away peacefully Monday, May 3, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Fortunant and Georgiana (Gelinas) Dion, he was the husband of the late Marie B. (Mailloux) Dion.

A 1940 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Mr. Dion served his country during WWII with the United States Army as a navigator with the 8th Air Force and earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Mr. Dion received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three clusters and the European Theatre Campaign Ribbon.

After the war, he went on to graduate from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Sciences class of 1946. Lucien was the proprietor of the August Hebert & Son Funeral Home, where he was employed for over forty-six years as a funeral director and embalmer. Mr. Dion was a communicant of Saint Anne's Church in Fall River and also a member of the Holy Name Society at the church and past trustee. Lucien was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association and a founding member of the Fall River Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of Saint Anne's Fraternity, Fall River Lion's Club, Franco-American Civic League, Franco-American War Veterans, Knights of Columbus Father Boehr Council and L'Union Saint Jean Baptiste. Mr. Dion also served the City of Fall River as an Election Commissioner for over nineteen years.

Mr. Dion is survived by two daughters, Michele M. Orabona and her husband Len of Williamsburg, VA, and Pauline D. Gousie and her husband Paul of Rehoboth, MA; a son, Paul Dion of Pawtucket, RI; a sister, Rita Lambert of Tiverton, RI; four grandchildren, Matthew D. Gousie, Lee Anne Todd, Lori J. Rossi, Kevin P. Gousie; seven great-grandchildren, Diana Todd, Bill Todd, Eveline Rossi, Madeline Rossi, Autumn Gousie, Kevin P. Gousie, Jr., and Riley Gousie. He was the father of the late Roger Dion and the brother of the late Bertha Lachance, Evelyn Lamarre, Alice Gagnon, Cecile Labadie, Sister Armande Dion, SJM, Eugene, Rene, and Camille Dion.

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be held Friday, May 7, 2010, at 9:00am from the HEBERT-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 945 S. Main St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Anne Church, South Main St., Fall River, with entombment to follow in the Mausoleum at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
